Opinion Pieces

Check out some new student writing on the Library page. Students in Ms. Horton's skills block have been writing opinion pieces on matters of concern to them. As of today there is an essay about chemical testing on animals by Zola and one on seat belt use by Erick. By the end of today there may be several more. To read these pieces click on the Library page and then find the student work pages (listed under their names) on the right. Check back often as new work is being posted as soon as it is publishable!

Curriculum Night Success

On Thursday night we held our annual Curriculum Night.  It was a great success with a great showing of families and staff members. The theme this year was how technology is being used in different grade levels and subject areas.  Parents and students joined different sessions hosted by different teachers throughout the building.  Families got the opportunity to play math games on Smartboards, experiment with our Type to Learn program, sing along to a Reading Street song, sound out letters on iPads, make music on the computer and much, much more.  We ended the night sharing some pizza and salad together while nine lucky families won iTunes gift certificates from the raffle.  Overall, a really great night that once again highlights the awesome community we have at Oak Grove.  Thank you!

Curriculum Night is November 14

Dear Parents and Families,

Please mark your calendars: Next Thursday, November 14 is Curriculum Night at Oak Grove School from 5:30 – 7pm.  Come explore with your child how technology is being used in the classrooms across subject areas.  There will be opportunities to observe and work with iPads and Smartboards, to learn about the many programs we use like Lexia Reading, SumDog, and Type to Learn and much, much more.  And in keeping with our Curriculum Night tradition, there will be a raffle at the end of the event with fantastic prizes.

In other news, attached to the weekly update is the WSESU parent survey. This same survey is being handed out at parent conferences this week.  It is an anonymous survey for parents to provide feedback about our school.  There is a collection box in the front hallway for the surveys.  Thank you for taking the time to provide this valuable feedback.

Have a great week and best wishes for a terrific parent-teacher conference.

Dear Parents and Families,
There is a lot of excitement in the air this week. If you are a family that celebrates Halloween I am sure the kids have shared their ideas about costumes and the fun they plan to have tonight.  It’s a fun time to work in an elementary school. I want to thank the parents who brought in treats and theme-based classroom items to make the classroom festivities that much more special.

Please follow our guiding principle, BE SAFE! Bright colors and glow sticks may not be part of the costume, but they are critical when out trick or treating.  I wish you the best for a safe and happy weekend.
